Saying For Today: Something inside me reaches out to her, she receives, and I receive. This is Love before love was, and after love is no more.

The purpose of relation is the relation itself - touching the You. For as soon as we touch a You, we are touched by a breath of eternal life.
*Martin Buber. I and Thou.
May 2019 - written when I was serving as hospice chaplain -
I look into her eyes, oft tear-filled this sharing, and she, surprisingly, looks into my eyes and maintains the seeing into. I am deeply touched, partly because she has the disease that brought my mother's body back to ashes. I shed a few tears, as she does: sharing tears is as holy as any Holy Communion or other rite - Life, even Grace, happens in the meeting.
There seems to be a distant connection arising from a forgotten past, as much at home now as any time and as much at home here as anywhere. Why? For in this moment, not a moment among moments, but this moment, we both are touched by the touching of each other. Something inside me reaches out to her, she receives, and I receive. This is Love before love was, and after love is no more.
This moment, this connection, draws me out of the so-called purpose of my being here this day. The veil, along with purpose and meaning, even "God," is torn asunder. This is purposeless Love, needing no end, even having no beginning. Something arises from behind the veil and breathes upon this whole place, and we together here, now.
This is not human, moral, religious, spiritual, or right or wrong - these phantoms find no place where Face sees Face. Eternal Life breathes upon us. We are here in this Communion, this sharing, but not a heaven hereafter, a paradise to come, a nirvana to get to - no, Eternal - the very negation of the illusion of anything of time, even timeless or unending time - arising as this Something in our seeing Face to Face. For today, at least today, I choose to leave this Something unnamed, even as It is.
